Characteristics
of vineyards and their environment:
The
vineyards from where these extraordinary, exotic, passion-raising
and expression-generating wines originate are located in the
Province of Mendoza. These far-away «new-world»
lands, which are protected by the Andes mountain range from
the humid winds originating in the Pacific Ocean, enjoy a mountain
climate that is perfect for vineyard development and a pollution-free
environment, which is not easy to find in other places of the
world.
The
vines are trained up a high 3-wire parral-like trellis system
overhanging 1.40-1.50 meters above the soil.
With
an average daily temperature range of 15ºC between the
highest and lowest temperatures, this wonderful semi-desert
climate is suitable for vineyards and fosters great production
of tannin and color in grapes. Additionally, there are harsh
and dry winter seasons. The summer season, instead, is characterized
by its warm weather warm and extremely sunny days and cool nights.
This
allows for slow and progressive grape ripening, resulting in
better wine quality which is evidenced in wine acidity, structure
and aroma.
In
addition to these characteristics, rains are rare, ranging 300-400
mm per year on average, and usually occur during spring and
summer. That is why most vineyards are irrigated by «non-polluted»
meltwater coming from the mountains. Alternatively, extremely
pure water taken from the rocky underground is used. |

These
soil and climate characteristics result in very healthy almost
pest-free grape crops, where the use of agrochemical pesticides
is almost non-existent.
The soil is typically poor, with low fertility and good drainage,
consisting of flood-origin components (sand-based soil, including
clay, pebbles, and limestone).
